"The voice"

Over the public address system

perched on top the cornice

comes a booming voice

to tell the younger students

to drop their silly games

and return to serious pursuits

like math for mental discipline,

history to prevent the future

from being as brutal as the past,

science for useful information

or art just for the sake of rounding things out.

However, before long a higher voice

will call us all in from life's bitter playground

for lessons of an altogether different sort.
