To climb up the Barranc means crossing continuous sedimentary materials formed
on the seabed between 220 and 150 million years ago, turned over by the
geological forces that formed the Serra Tramuntana range, some 20 million years
ago.
The Barranc owes its peculiarities to physical causes (force of the mountain
streams, rock falls) and to chemical causes (calcareous rocks it is made of are
gradually deformed: in the geological scale, over millions of years they
dissolve like sugar.
