Mithology of Caelum

Caelum or the burin. Austral constellation introduced by Lacaille after its trip after Good Hope (South Africa) gave east name Him, the burin, because it wants to remember the useful one that they use the chisellers and went in honor to the work of these craftsmen, generally of great artistic qualities, reason why the French astronomer filled up an emptiness in the celestial toponymy.

ori.gif (1448 bytes) Characteristics

It is a small absolutely insignificant constellation, that covers I star sector of the austral sky between declinations 30 to 50 of South latitude; that it limits the north with Lepus , to the east with Eridianus and Horologium, to the south with Doradusand Pictor and to the west with Columba. One is a constellation that very limits the little visible south in septemtrionales latitudes during the months of winter and for the inhabitants of the South hemisphere during part of the spring and all the summer.

Caelum I located the december 8th, 1989 in the Majorcan locality of Dog Picafort, had then, 22 years. At the moment it has been the last constellation that I have discovered visible from the latitude of North 40º that is where I write you until the longed for trip to the seas of the south to be able to locate the last constellations.
