      Capricornius is a very old constellation. Eudoxio mentioned it in century IV to C., but already the heatings spoke of her appearing it with the figure of a goat. Due to the precession of the equinoxes, it makes two thousand years the signs zodiacal agreed with the respective constellations and when the Sun entered the sign (and the constellation) of Capricornius it was the time of the solstice of winter for the South hemisphere.

       The star of the day was more then in the point under the ecliptic and next to the horizon. The duration by day reached the annual minimum, but as of that moment, the radiating star returned to raise in the sky and animated to people and earth with its vital fertility.

      The old ones wanted to compare the celestial way crossed by the Sun at those times of the year with the mountainous slope throughout which the goats happen agilely and, after to have passed some time illuminating the immense extension marine of the austral ocean, and they wished to leave some memory of the oceanic mission... that the Sun made annually, believed opportune to deform the image of the goat assigning to him the later part of a fish.            

                Logically, now, about the precession of the equinoxes, the solstice is reached the December 22nd and agrees in a the constellation of Sagittarius and not only in Capricornius although the tropic of Capricornius like the parallel stays by tradition 23º30 ' of South latitude of the Earth.

                The old Heatings considered to the constellation of Capricornius like carrier of beneficial influences, as much is thus, that to the western pair of his stars to and b they gave to the Arabs the name him of good omen of the good star of the soldier, also to the other pair, the Eastern one of stars d and g greeted it like carrier of the good news.

                The star d Capricorni to passed in the famous history of Astronomy because the September 23rd,  1846 astronomer J. Galle from Berlin discovered to the star the Neptune planet. Thanks to the precise indications that the French mathematician Leverrier had suggested him.

            Capricornius is located in the South hemisphere, between the parallels -10º and -30º. are a zodiacal constellation that during the end of January and principles of February  the Sun crosses it. He is visible during the months of May to October as much in the South hemisphere as in the north, culminating in the meridian during the nights of end of Julio and principle of August, lower and near the horizon from the North hemisphere and practically in the zenith in the south.  One is to 40º to the south of the celestial equator, in her we observed therefore, few shining stars, since it is a constellation that indeed does not emphasize by shining stars and some globular accumulation.

                It limits the north with a the constellation of Aquarius and Aquila, the east with Sagittarius, the south with Microscopium and Piscis Austrinus and the west again with the constellation of Aquarius.

                The constellation of Capricornius I located the 10 to it of August of 1982, at the age of 15 years in the turistic coasst locality of Can Picafort in the island of Majorca (Spain).

Main stars

               Alpha or a, denominated Algedi or Giedi forms part of a triple system formed by two main stars (even optician), both of yellow color, and denominated prime Giedi and Secunda Giedi and of magnitude 3.8 and 4.5, separated ones more of 6' one of which also he is double. Is the system to 700 years Earth light. One is in the north of the constellation.

                Beta or b, denominated Dabih, stars double with components of magnitude 3.2 and 6.1, the first as well triple and secondary in addition double one, forming all the pair a system quintuple. Earth light is to 400 years.  One is in the northeastern sector of the constellation.

                Gamma or g; denominated Nashira, of magnitude 3.80, clear yellow color.  Earth light is located to 140 years, is 50 times more luminous than the Sun Form leaves from the group of the Hyades stellar zone in Taurus where the star formed.  One is in the western sector of Capricornius.

                Delta or d; denominated Deneb Algedi, one is in the western sector of Capricornius, of magnitude 3.0 and white color. Light is to 39 years. It is eight times more luminous than our Sun.


Other objects

           M30. Impressive globular cluster, of magnitude 5.5 and 6' of diameter.  Earth light is to 23,500 years in a the South zone of the Milky Way.

NOTE: It is a pretty globular accumulation; he is small, 41 gradient and very easy to locate since Capricornii is to 20' of, it is a off-white accumulation and something irregular.

  NOTE: One is a very separated triple, nothing less than 6', a3; although the nature is object by perpective, clear is that a Vista is necessary since there is a small difference of magnitude; to1 he is double as well with a separation of 6,8", separating with the eyeglass of 50x, is a pretty pair but it has a remarkable difference of magnitude. a3, also he is double, it has a separation of 45", something greater than a1 but less showy than first, the magnitude difference, although is smaller, continues being elevated.
