Mythology of Corvus

      The God Apolo sent to a crow with a Glass (Crater  constellation ) to look for water. The Crow encaprichó with mature higos that found and was arranged to comérselos. As it were delayed, it put as excuse that a gigantic and monstrous marine serpent I attack to him. Apolo punished to the Crow to become black and put all components of this myth in the sky. In addition, the crow was condemned to pass thirst eternally, reason why when having the dry throat, its quack sounds different from the one from other birds.

One is a precious constellation in form of quadrilateral whose right edge hangs another star in concrete to Corvi, of a magnitude not very shining but remarkable in primaverales skies in the North and autumnal hemisphere in the south, culminating to midnight at the end of the month of March. It limits the north and the west with the constellation of Virgo, the east with Crater (the glass) and the south with Hydra.

        Crosses +45º with respect to the galactic equator the parallel, therefore, it is in a poor zone in stars and accumulations and rich in galaxies and on the other hand, it is less to of 10º to the south of the own ecliptic or zodiacal zone.

        The constellation of Corvus I located in one cold night of winter the 30 to it of January of 1982 at the age of 14 years of age.

Main stars

       Alpha, a; denominated Alchiba, of magnitude 4.04 and yellow color. Earth light is to 63 years, its luminosity is five times superior to the lot. One is in the South zone of the constellation next to Hydra.

       Beta, b;  denominated Kraf, of magnitude 2.66 and yellow color. The west of the constellation, also next to Hydra is in the sector. Light is to 139 years. It is 133 times more luminous than our Sun.

        Gamma, g; denominated Gienah Ghurab, of magnitude 2.59 and blue color. Earth light is to 164 years, being 200 times more luminous than our Sun formed in the accumulation of the Hyades in Taurus.

    Delta, d; located in the center of the constellation, denominated Alborab, of magnitude 2.97 and white. Light is to 88 years, its luminosity is 40 times the lot.

Other objects

         NGC 4361, planetary nebula located in the center of the constellation of magnitude 10.3 and 80"of diameter arc.

         NGC 4038, galaxy of magnitude 10.3 and diameter 3'x1', located to the east of the constellation next to Crater.

        NOTE: One is in a partially rich zone; it is identified very easily because one is to only 20' of M104, the galaxy of the hat; a remarkable difference of magnitude between the components exists, the main one I believe that she is orange, in change, profit not to identify the secondary color of the due one to the brightness weakness, is unfolded with 50x.

        NOTE: One is in a poor zone in stars; there is a remarkable difference of magnitude between components AB, is unfolded without difficulty with the eyeglass of 50x. Pair AC also, is characterized by a high difference of brightness between its components and by to be possible its deployment with 50x. Profit not to identify the colors of the components, concluding, the triple is simple and weak of brightness, but peculiar.
