Mythology and history

The constellation of Grus was designated by the Dutch navigator Pieter Dirkszoon Keyser and Frederik de Houtman at the end of century XVI. In mapamundo celestial of Petrus Plancius it was defined to him with the name of Phoenicopterus. The name of a Grusis or To the Náir of Arab origin means brilliant tail of the fish because it limits the north with the constellation of the austral fish and it assumes that for the Arabs all the zone would correspond to an enormous fish. |
