Mythology of Hidrus

        It represents the male of the Hydra, remembers to a cobra with his turgid head and its coiled body.

           Hydrus, precious visible austral and circumpolar constellation in the South hemisphere during great part of the year. One is located between clouds of Magallanes, therefore, it is easy his location. Its form is triangular.

  Hydrus limits the north with Reticulum, Horologium and Eridianus, very next to Alchernar or Eridiani. To the east with Tucana and again to the east and the south with Octants and the west with Mensa and Doradus.

             Hydrus to date, I have not been able to locate it to be in very austral latitudes from the island of Majorca where alive, although I do not discard to someday make a trip to the seas of the south, and to lose to me in an island of the desert Pacific to be able to contemplate and to locate the constellations that I have left to discover.

Main stars

       Alpha, a; of magnitude 2.86 one is in the North sector of the constellation next to Alchernar, the star most shining of Eridianus, is a yellow star located to 71 years light. Form leaves from a binary system with an orbital period of 606 days. 

      Beta, b; of 2.82 magnitude and yellow color, Earth light is to 24 years, is located in the South sector of the constellation.

    Gamma, g;  of 3.26 magnitude and red color, Earth light is to 214 years. It is a red giant 200 times more luminous than our Sun.

    To date observations by telescope have not been made since it is located in the South hemisphere, next to the celestial and invisible South Pole from where I write these lines to you, Majorca, Spain, although I do not discard to someday make a trip to the seas of the south, and to lose to me in an island of the Pacific to be able to contemplate and to locate the constellations that still I have left to discover.
