Iris is a small asteroid whose excentricity is 0.2300, very grown. by the way, its type is asteroidal kind. The discovery of Iris was made close to perihelion about the Sun & in the opposition about Earth. Its magnitude was 8.7. Its orbital period is 3.69 years & its inclination about ecliptic plane is 5.52º.
During 2000 year, Iris will be at Cancer constellation, its localisation was not easy because the field is very rich one of stars, & faint asteroid too.
The observation to find Iris were made during the next nights; February, 24th, 25th & 27th of 2000 with my telescope, refractor of 1400mm. of phocal distance & 90mm. of diameter. In the end, at 21h. 20m. (UT) of February 27th, I find Iris asteroid into the rich field of stars, this is, by the way, the discovery date.
By the other hand, with a Java program that I found on the net, & thanks to Osamu Ajiki of AstroArts&y Ron Baalke of JPL, you can see the asteroid orbit, distance in relationship to Sun 6 Earth at Solar
