PROCLAMATION FOR EDUCATION IN CATALAN
Català
English
We are aware that the situation is critical but also that the recovery
of the Catalan language is possible and that it is essential for proper
measures to be taken immediately. The time is ripe for such measures
with the "Pact for Progress" in power, as the groups that
make up the present government have all declared the need to restore
Catalan to normal use.
It is essential to normalise education in the Balearic Islands with
a view to the near and distant future; and normality as demanded by
civil society has always been for education entirely in Catalan. It
is clear from the education system in Catalonia that it is legally and
actually possible to offer this type of education (which is a fundamental
-if insufficient- requirement for the integration of non-Catalan speakers
and for the non-disintegration of the Catalan-speaking community).
We appeal to the will of all individuals and groups to DEMAND AN
ACT OF PARLIAMENT WHICH WILL ENSURE THAT EDUCATION AT ALL LEVELS, IN
ALL CENTRES IN THE BALEARIC ISLANDS, IS ENTIRELY IN CATALAN AND TAKES
INTO ACCOUNT THE CULTURAL, GEOGRAPHICAL, HISTORICAL, LITERARY, ETC REALITY
OF ALL CATALAN-SPEAKING TERRITORIES. Such an Act should come into
effect gradually, in order to avoid traumas, but without delay.
